Jesus - A Deist Perspective
How can a Christian be a Deist? And how can a Deist be a
Christian? I was a Christian long ago. I have been a Deist for quite a while now.
Until relatively recently I would have told you these concepts are incompatible.
But time has a way of changing our minds and our hearts, and as I learn more
about Deism, I find that I have become more accepting of the beliefs of others,
even to the point of understanding what I believe to be the true message from
the story of the
man we call the Christ. While I do not believe that the Christ was God or the sole source of
truth, his message is one of the most well known and a source of inspiration to
millions. It is a familiar story, and once I arrived at my own understanding of
the Christ concept, I once again became comfortable with this message.
What you will find here is not the message you will
find in any Christian church. A Christian Deist has a different view of the
Christ than a Christian does. Christian Deism is a Natural Religion that has
reason and experience at its foundation. The only revelations and miracles are
found in the creation itself, not in sacred books or the pious words of the
clergy. If respect is a form of worship, then living in accordance with nature, and with our own human nature, is, in
my opinion, the ultimate sign of respect and worship.
Whether Jesus was a man, a myth or a concept, we can all appreciate
the core principles and truths we find at the heart of his story. As Deists, we
must each find our own way and our own understandings of the truth. We plan to offer a
Frequently Asked Questions page, links to other sites about Christian Deism and
Deism in general and, most importantly, essays by John Lindell and
others that explain Christian Deism and what it means. We invite you to visit the links at
left.
